Hard rock, happiness and health!

Thundermother and AC/DC are frequently mentioned in the same sentence, not only by us, but also in various music media. Thundermother seems to be happy with the comparison to AC/DC, but has managed to use the inspiration to create their own sound. Thundermother’s release Heat Wave (AFM Records) on 31 July 2020 came storming in, was welcomed with great reviews and made us old AC/DC fans happy, i.e. someone takes pride in carrying the tradition into the future. Only a few months later rumors about a new AC/DC album started to get around. Then marketing signs stating ‘PWR UP’ started to show up all over the Globe. 13 Nov. 2020 AC/DC released its 17th studio album the phenomenal Power Up (Columbia, Sony Music). In a year of global hardship, we salute these two bands, which spread excellent hard rock, happiness and health.

To note is that Thundermother performs live tonight (Thursday, 18 Dec. 2020) in Swedish TV show, Musikhjälpen (Music Aid) to help collect money in the name of ‘no-one shall be left without health care, your music saves lives’. Take the opportunity to contribute, wish music or participate in Thundermother’s own collection and competition.

Speaking of competition, the metalsouth ‘A C D C P W R U P’ still life picture, recently posted, was one of three AC/DC fan actions nationally (via Facebook) awarded by Sony Music Sweden. Happily received the prize was the Power Up album (red vinyl) and a really cool AC/DC PWR UP hat. Thanks to Sony Music Sweden for the prize, which is heavily appreciated.

Please, note that after our latest post on the Power Up Album it has received excellent and more correct reviews like in Rock’n’Roll Magazine, Issue #1/2021, page 41, 4 of 5 and Sweden Rock Magazine, issue #11/2020, page 78, 8 of 10.

Finally, let us wish Thundermother good luck tonight and forward hopes of more future releases from two happiness spreading bands.

Swedish energy for Record Store Day

Record Store Day is here today, Saturday April 13, 2019, and we must take the opportunity to pay tribute to a couple of current Swedish hard rock-and metal productions. The Vinyl has become the natural choice for us when buying music and we would like recommend 6 albums, which are with Swedish origin.

Thundermother, Thundermother (Despotz records, 2018), formed by Filippa Nässil in Växjö 2009. A new and cruel line-up was formed in March 2017, which is right now harvesting on hard work on a tour in Europe.

Tribulation, Down Below (Century Media Records Ltd., 2018), formed in Arvika 2005. This and the previous album ‘The Children Of The Night’ (Century Media Records Ltd., 2015) voted Best Metal albums in their respective years of The Close-Up Magazine. More material on Tribulation from last summer is to be to found at this site.

Candlemass, The Door to Doom (Napalm Records Handels Gmbh, 2019), formed in Upplands Väsby 1984. The album is definitely a candidate for best metal album this year. With tracks like ‘Black Trinity’ and ‘House of Doom’ fantastic energy is created.

VA Rocks, Pull No Punches (Blackstar/Epiphone, 2016), Ida Svensson Vollmer, Klara Wedding and Frida Rosén had played together for 10 years when their first album was released in 2016. Their home base is Lund. Also now touring Europe adding massive groups of new fans with their AC/DC inspired sound and energy. Why not visit http://www.varocksofficial.com

Soilwork, Verkligheten (Nuclear Blast Gmbh, 2019), an all through metalsouth favorite, one of the reasons to start this site, with its roots in the next door village, Glumslöv. Started as Inferior Breed in 1995 and name changed to Soilwork 1996. ‘The Nurturing Glance’ and ‘Stålfågel’ kicks you right into this fantastic album.

Skraekoedlan, Eorpe (Fuzzorama Records, 2018), formed 2009 in Norrköping, the stoner influenced sound in theme produced albums has proven a success. The album needs to be listened through from first to last track…some knowledge in the Swedish language will help to get the story, but the music itself stands perfectly well!!

Have a great Record Store Day and buy buy buy!!

Sweden Rock, June 6, 2014.

A dream came true on the Swedish National Day June 6, going with good friend to Norje, Sölvesborg, to visit the Sweden Rock Festival. It was a fanatstic day! A memory for life and let the pictures pass on the great music!

Thundermother – AC DC positively soundalikes and can take over the throne! Really great stuff and a good performance at noon in clear bright sunlight!! This is the band, which suffered a mass leave of band members during 2013. Remaining Filippa Nässil and Giorgia Carteri didn’t give in, and to now listen to Thundermother with new band members Claire Cunningham (song), Linda Ström (bass) and Tilda Stenqvist (drums) is massively good. And I’m only sorry not to be the one who caught the LP album of Rock’n’roll Disaster (Warner 2014), which they threw out in the audience. What a bright future and just let us know when and where the next performance will be!!

Joe Bonamassa – the best performance of the festival!?! Magical! Musically perfect! Must be seen and listened to again!! World class performance! No more words are needed. The man rules!!

Kvelertak – Norwegian heavy metal, which would have been even more enjoyable in darkness.

Annihilator – Canadian thrash metal top quality from Vancouver!

Canned Heat – American blues-and boogierock from California formed in 1965, drew more and more people forming one huge crowd when the wonderful groovie harmonica, bass, drum and blues sound spread all over the festival area. A bit of a nice contrast to the loud sound waves sent out from most band here. Personally, I had a great time! Some of the band members participated in the Woodstock festival at the end of the 1960’s!

Black Sabbath – ended this wonderful day and it must have been 30.000 in front of the stage. Expecations on a high level after the successful comeback album ’13’. I bought a copy when visiting Warszawa, Poland. The price of a CD there was really good in comparison to Sweden. And speak about value for money! Great album!! Fantastic performarnce with Ozzy’s voice being stronger by age!! We hope to see you again soon in Sweden, preferably in the metalsouth region!!
