Soilwork returned to Hbg!!

DSC00666

On October 11, 2014, Soilwork returned to Helsingborg, as promised. It isn’t at all obvious and Soilwork has no particular plan to include Helsingborg naturally in their touring around Europe. Normally, Malmö (KB), Stockholm and Gothenburg gets one gig each. Soilwork played the Tivoli in Helsingborg for the first time in 2000 and was then support to Testament. Latest they played the Tivoli was in 2006. As we understand, is Goran Raber at ABF, at this blog and below highly appreciated and mentioned for other great gigs at the Tivoli, the reason for them to stop by in Hbg after 8 years. Goran knows some of the boys in the band since they started. We fans can only again say a big and greatful thanks to Goran for bringing one of the best bands in its field back to its hometown.

Support this evening all from the metalsouth region (Helsingborg, Glumslöv, Höganäs) was in order: Mörbultad (mentioned and praised below), 8Stone (new acquaintance for me, BUT how good they were!), Outtrigger and Kayser.

Mörbultad always gets too short time. They are just great and give them a whole evening on the big stage and I and many more will come!

8Stone’s Thomas Klintberg – Bass & Backing Vocals in a pause between songs.

8Stone is now my next ‘catching up on their career’ band. Much to learn and listen to and not to forget one of many bands in this region, which has been there for a while and delivers wildly well.

Outtrigger are among professionals, makes a great job and has gained quite a big audience mainly from their successful song Echo, which made ‘the 2nd chance’ round in the Swedish Eurovision qualifications nationally broadcasted via TV to a major part of Swedish homes. If the boys can stay together and give it a few years more, get out of the, sort of, ‘Eurovison metal’ sound they can gain also the true heavy metal fans.

Kayser had the hardship of playing last and after the main act of Soilwork. Not easy, but as always a perfect delivery. Their latest album ‘Read your enemy’ is still a main favourite of mine.

As we say, pictures say more than words, and only a few words are needed to describe the Soilwork performance. A few songs it took to get the guitars to fall into the sound waves and when Panic Broadcast was performed guitars were also in!!

Completely memorable, historical and hell of a lot of fun.

The Final song became as spectacular as Björn Strid promised by introducing a 12 year old mini version of himself, who rocked the Tivoli almost into pieces. This boy doesn’t need a few years more. He’s ready to get rolling NOW!

It was the best evening! Thanks to Soilwork for the homecoming, thanks to Goran Raber and thanks to the Tivoli for arranging these gigs and for being still there for us living in the region to get these fantastic evenings with great fun and emotions!!

I was not the only one who went to the Tivoli to watch Kayser, the thrash metal band from Helsingborg, this evening. Also most of us considered Kayser as the headline act. Surprisingly, the order of Kayser and Outtrigger was shifted to make Outtrigger the headliners. Experience versus youth!! I was in doubt over this firstly, with Kayser, formed in 2004, 3 albums produced and heavy touring experience over many years. Outtrigger was know over night in most Swedish homes when they performed the song Echo at the Swedish TV Eurovison 2014. Can we call this Eurometal, maybe?? The advantage with the shift was that Kayser started and I was on my way to leave after their heavy performance, but I stayed on for a spectacular gig with loads of energy. Outtrigger also from Helsingborg needs time, but will certainly face a bright future!

Kayser and Outtrigger below in this order.

Energy band Outtrigger again at the Tivoli on Saturday October 11, as one of 4 supporting bands to Soilwork.

Soilwork is back in town!

Well, it’s not so well in advance, but tomorrow October 11, Soilwork returns to their roots after world touring. At numerous times we have asked for this here in the metalsouth region. Please, come back here and play. Supporting acts are all Helsingborg related, but, of course, we look forward to one day having Soilwork and Darkane concerting together. Why not at the Glumslövs IP (soccer field) and we can really talk about homecoming. Soilwork and Darkane, you are hereby challenged to do this and it’s pretty easy to here make a comment and ask for help. From this blogger you are guaranteed energy of the same level you show on stage.

Check the link out for tickets and more information. Come on…again…the SEK 500 budget for the best evening of your life!!

metalsouth raises before The Final Collapse

metalsouth more or less raises from the dead…

Due to a job change my mind has been occupied with getting the new stuff in and getting the old out!! Now when debits and credits have balanced finally and vacation time has arrived more great opportunities to catch up on several events during the Spring and Summer season are given.

Please, be ready for a season resume with great pictures and some real metalsouth impressions.

DSC00305

…among others, the clinically well performing Joe Bonamassa at the Sweden Rock Festival, Norje, Blekinge. The best performance of the festival?? This is the opinion of many!

DSC00444

Darkane as support together with Mörbultad (‘Battered’, Helsingborg hard core) to Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals at KB in Malmö. ENERGYYYY!!!

DSC00182…or Kayser as support to Outtrigger at Tivoli in Helsingborg earlier this Spring, which became a pretty peculiar situation, when the expected headline act all of a sudden became the support… Experience over youth?? Both give their best and the headline band was worth waiting and taking another final beer for!!

Since metalsouth is now up again, although stumbling…there will be more soon…

Black Temple – continous victories!

DSC00064

New material was promised via the bands Facebook posts. Not only new material with an after taste of wanting more were thrown in our faces on Friday March 28. These guys are the most original and the most barrier crushing band of all we’ve seen in the region over the last year and of all we will experience during the festival. Variations from fast to slow with patience and fantastic sound waves gives content to what we think is classified as ‘stoner’. Do we really need to classify all we hear or can we just say that this is freaking fantastic Black Temple doing a freaking hard work for an all too small crowd. Still, their performance proves they aren’t effected by how many are there, ten or a thousand, it’s a hard work done with a will of giving it all. Impressive short soundcheck of close to ten minutes and then Marcus Witold Östensson screams ‘Då kör vi!’ (Let’s gooo!). We’re really happy to have been at this gig and look forward so much to a new album!

Riot Horse – another great metalsouth performance!

DSC00085We have greeted Andreas Sydow of Riot Horse a few times at this blog when he has performed the great song Chaos vs. Order together with Darkane invited as a former singer. To see him perform on March 29 on the Tivoli’s big stage on the Festival’s last night was a great experience. Also a little surprising since it was our first encounter with this classic heavy rock band with obvious blues influences. They create the kind of happy southern American atmosphere as bands like Black Stone Cherry. Sorry, for again making a comparison, but we mean here a very beneficial one!! How many great bands do we have in this town and in this region?? It’s unbelievable and I wonder which other town in Sweden of our size ca. 130.000 can compete with us!! We’re happy to live here for many reasons, but the hard rock-and heavy metal supply here is super great!!

DSC00084

We will get even more acquainted with Riot Horse at their new album’s release party at the Metal Bar at Tivoli on May 31. Let’s be there and hear much more of this hard freaking southern American influenced hard rock!!

Royal Acid Orchestra – high energy attitude!

To have the slot just before the festival’s headline act The Night Flight Orchestra with two Soilwork members would be a challenge for any band. After three days of extremely good music it would be pretty easy to take the time, wind down and gather energy for the last band. Despite of this challenge the local Royal Acid Orchestra wakes up everyone with their rash attitude. We have with great interest followed the band’s development via Facebook and the production of their first album ‘Kingdom of Nothing’. We will listen more! We will follow more!! Thanks for a great performance!!DSC00109DSC00101

The Night Flight Orchestra – a trip back to the 70’s!

DSC00137They have been mentioned as a Supergroup with band members from Soilwork (Björn Strid: vocals, David Andersson: guitar), Arch Enemy (Sharlee D’Angelo: bass), Von Benzo (Richard Larsson: keyboards) and Mean Streak (Jonas Källsbäck: drums). For all of us at the Tivoli this night the moment of seeing them together is strong. Growing up with and learning good music during the 1970’s meant musical discoveries as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Many in the crowd this evening made references to early days Deep Purple. The Night Flight Orchestra’s only album so far ‘Internal Affairs’ (Coroner Records, 2012) got really good reviews in local press. It was mentioned as a candidate to ‘Best hard rock record of the year’. When the vote was there for 2012 they were nominated in certain press, but didn’t go all the way. All the members in the band give proof of strong musical competence and to hear them play so well together is a pure joy. As a dedicated Soliwork fan it’s in particular gratifying to have Björn Strid singing more traditionally just confirming the great singer he is with a bandwith of infinite capacity. Thanks to The Night Flight Orchestra and thanks to Goran Raber of ABF and Amnezia for making this Festival happen. We can only wish for a repeat next year! This town, this region is so metalsouth!! Let the pictures speak for themselves!

Upcoming events

A World of Music Festival at the Tivoli, Helsingborg, March 27 – 29, 2014.

On Thursday March 27 the 3 day Festival starts. Totally 20 bands from the region and mainly from Helsingborg will perform on different stages at the Tivol in Helsingborg. Many thanks to the initiators of the Festival, which gives a great opportunity to meet with local bands and their music.

A direct recommendation from metalsouth is to listen to Black Temple (with a few new tracks from a new album in production) 22.30 on Friday March 28, Riot Horse (read here previous articles on Darkane) 19:30, Royal Acid Orchestra 20:15 and The Night Flight Orchestra (read here previous articles on Soilwork) 21:00 on Saturday March 29.

An why not buy tickets for all 3 days and take the chance to make new good acquaintances of local music strenght!

Kayser at the Tivoli, Helsingborg, May 24, 2014.

Yes, yes, February 17, the fantastic comeback album was released, which will be followed up with a gig at the Tivoli. The timing is superb giving us fans a possibility to build up a happy feeling for a great meet on May 24. Kayser will be supported by local Helsingborg band Outrigger, which became nationally known in Sweden as Eurovision participants with their song Echo. They did well and many phone votes were given by metalsouth. Can we call their style ‘Eurometal’?

Soilwork and Darkane – an epic metalsouth collaboration!

Great many apologies from metalsouth on not actively promoting the fantastic tour these two bands just have finished in Europe. We can only hope that this collaboration with two of the finest representatives from the region will be taken up again. Help us out to inspire Soilwork and Darkane to do a gig nearby. Why not at the Big scene at Tivoli here in Helsingborg or at KB in Malmö. To have followed the bands via their respective Facebook posts have only raised the happy wish of seeing them together close by.

To read about not only fantastic performances, but also stories like the one when the Master drummer Dirk Verbeuren in Soilwork fell ill for the concert in Bristol March 11 and Peter Wildoer intensly rehearsed the 16 Soilwork songs to perform firstly the Darkane show and thereafter Soilworks’ and as I understand with an excellence that only he can. It would have been extremely interesting to compare the differences in sound when one of the best metal drummers in the world temporarily was replaced by another world class drummer. You know your stuff when 16 songs are rehearsed and performed in such a short time. Congratulations to all who experienced this classic show and by the way…it’s great to see Dirk back on track again!!

Soilworks first recording of a live DVD in Helsinki March 21 is also creating some happy expectations. Floor Jansen from Nightwish partcipates. We haven’t been able to find out when the DVD will be released, but our focus is on the market!!

The next encounter of these bands and their band members will be at the Tivoli’s  ‘A World of Music Festival’ the upcoming weekend when we can see Björn Strid and David Andersson from Soilwork performing with A Night Flight Orchestra on Saturday March 29. More on that under Upcoming events.
